Meet Tavrn Canary

I’ve historically built Tavrn in long, quiet stretches. I disappear for days, sometimes weeks, testing things locally until I’m confident they’re ready, then push it all out at once in a release like the ones you’ve been reading here. That’s kept things stable, but it’s also meant a lot of silence in between, and silence isn’t a great look when you’re wondering if a project’s still alive.

So we’re introducing Tavrn Canary, an early access channel where new features and fixes land before they hit the main app.

What is Canary, exactly?

Canary is a separate, opt-in version of Tavrn that gets updates first, sometimes small, sometimes big, on no fixed schedule. Whenever something’s ready, it goes to Canary before it goes anywhere else. Stable Tavrn (what you’re using right now) stays exactly as reliable as it’s always been. Canary is where the newer, rougher stuff lives first.

Who’s it for?

Anyone curious enough to opt in. You don’t need to be a developer or a power user, just comfortable with the idea that things might occasionally break, look unfinished, or change again a few days later. If that sounds fun rather than frustrating, Canary’s for you.

What should you actually expect?

To be upfront about it:

• No schedule. Canary might update multiple times in a week, then go quiet for a while. That’s not a sign anything’s wrong, it’s just how it works.
• Things can break. This is genuinely the earliest version of anything we build. Bugs, half-finished features, and rough edges are part of the deal.
• It’s separate from stable. Opting into Canary doesn’t affect your Tavrn account or experience. You can go back any time.
• Your feedback actually shapes what ships. This is the whole point. Catching problems and hearing what feels off before it reaches everyone else makes stable Tavrn better for the people who’d rather wait for the finished version.

Why we’re doing this

Two reasons, honestly. First, it means you get to see progress happening in real time instead of waiting through long silences for the next big changelog. Second, it means more eyes on things before they ship broadly, it’s just one person making all this work, and there’s a lot we won’t catch testing alone that a handful of people using the app normally absolutely will.
