This release has three genuinely big features in it, so we’re not going to bury them under a wall of bullets this time. Here’s what’s new, starting with the stuff that actually changes how Tavrn feels day to day. 🧡
🧭 One Sidebar for Everything
Rooms, channels, and DMs used to live in separate mental buckets. Not anymore.
We rebuilt the sidebar from scratch into a single, unified surface: every room you’re in, every channel inside it, and every DM you have open, all in one scrollable column. No more losing your DMs behind a room switcher.
The goal was simple. You should never have to remember where something lives to find it.
Alongside it, we quietly renamed the concept under the hood too. /servers/ is now /rooms/ across the entire app and API. If you had old links bookmarked, they’ll still get you there.
🏠 Every Room Gets a Home
This is the one we’re most excited about.
Up until now, the Home tab was something only The Commons had, since it’s our own home base and we could build it by hand. Starting today, every room on Tavrn gets a dedicated Home tab: a real landing page for your community instead of just a channel list. Turn it on, turn it off, and if you turn it on, build it out exactly how you want with the new Visual Editor: pin announcements, embed links, lay out sections, whatever your room needs front and center.
Think of it as your server finally getting a front door instead of just a hallway.
🛡️ A Real Safety & Privacy Suite
We added a whole new Safety & Privacy category to room settings, built around the controls mods have been asking for the longest:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Join verification | Require none, email verified, or a 7-day / 30-day minimum account age |
| Custom minimum account age | Set your own threshold, in hours |
| New member timeout | Read-only period right after someone joins |
| Explicit content filter | Off, members without roles, or everyone |
| Require rules acceptance | New members must accept before participating |
| Block DMs from server members | Keep member-to-member DMs off by default |
| Hide member list | Keep the roster private |
Right alongside it, every room now gets audit logs, covering channel creation, edits, and deletion, settings changes, and member actions, so mods have an actual paper trail instead of guesswork.
We also patched a gap where certain links were slipping past our link scanner. That’s closed now.
🔧 Everything Else
Notifications, your way Set default notification behavior per channel, or apply it room-wide in one go.
Passkeys are here
Log in with just your biometrics, no password required. Turn it on under Settings → Account → Security → Passkeys.
Go fully passwordless Take it a step further and drop your password entirely. Once it’s disabled, you can log in with a passkey, a magic link, or a magic code instead, whatever’s fastest for you.
Settings, redesigned The Security tab and Account Status tab both got rebuilt to be clearer about what’s actually protecting your account. We also added hints and contrast tips when picking a room accent color, so you don’t accidentally ship illegible text.
Profiles got some personality User accent colors now show up on profile cards, and the profile tab in settings finally shows an accurate preview of what others see.
Accessibility, built in
A new Accessibility tab lives under Settings → Preferences → Accessibility. Check it out and enable what helps.
Cocoa is going self-serve Cocoa, our subscription upgrade, has always existed, you just had to contact support to get it. Soon you’ll be able to buy it yourself through Stripe, no support ticket required. As part of that groundwork, free accounts now have a 50MB upload cap per file. Cocoa will raise that to 150MB.
Under the hood A new Unified Modal system replaces a pile of duplicated one-off modals, which means faster load times and a smaller app overall. We also stripped out a long list of legacy code paths that were just sitting there costing us bytes, and published two new marketing pages, one for Cocoa and one for accessibility.
🐛 Fixed
- Voice channel connection status wasn’t showing correctly in the modern sidebar. Fixed.
- Some links were incorrectly exempt from link scanning. Fixed.
⚠️ Known Issues
Nothing major at this time.
🧭 What’s Next
With the sidebar unified and rooms running on the new routing and modal system, the next stretch is all about Home tab customization and getting Cocoa fully out the door. Thanks for hanging out in Tavrn. 🧡
